Who’s affected?
The purchasing regs up for debate by Collier County Commissioners have broad local impact.
County government spending plays a significant role in the area’s economy. Collier County government, the portion under the five elected Board of County Commissioners, buys an estimated $134.9 million annually in goods and services from businesses located in Collier and Lee counties. That’s 62 percent of $218 million in total spending by Collier County government on goods and services in fiscal year 2012.
Almost $105 million of county government spending went to businesses located in Collier County.
That figure doesn’t include government spending by independent elected officers including the clerk of courts, sheriff, tax collector and property appraiser, nor does it include spending by the Collier County school district.
County government bought goods and services totaling an estimated $30 million in 2012 from businesses in Lee.
View County government spending totals by business, based on purchase order data from the Collier County Purchasing Department.
